One member recently reported that only about half of the messages he sends are actually read by others. Read messages are indicated by two blue ticks. It is possible that some recipients have simply lost interest, or that our notification emails have been filtered into their junk or spam folder.
Search results are normally ordered by recent activity, with the most recently active members appearing first.
Map-Based Search works differently. Instead of displaying members in a list, it shows them as markers on a map, so there is no practical way to indicate which members have been active most recently. For this reason, we recommend starting with a relatively low maximum number of search results. If you search for 50 people, a good proportion are likely to have been active recently. If you search for 2,000 people, many of them may no longer be active, and the map cannot distinguish between recently active and inactive members.
That said, members are automatically sent an email notification whenever they receive a new unread message, so recent activity should not, in theory, make a significant difference.
At the time of writing, an Android app version of this site is available. Please note that there are several apps with unjabbed in their name, and only one of them is ours. We hope to release an Apple iPhone version in the future as well. Encouraging more members to use the smartphone app, rather than leaving the site open in a web browser tab, may help ensure that more messages are seen and read.
Please remember that most people use this site to meet in person, so messages to people who live a long distance away are less likely to receive a reply.

Sometimes all that’s needed is a printer, a noticeboard, and a tiny bit of legwork. Miracles are optional.

Thanks for this! I did not know what the different colored checks and number of them indicated. Am I correct in concluding that we get email notifications only for written messages and NOT for smiles alone? Having not logged in for a few weeks and not gotten notifications for those smiles folks sent me, I was unaware of their arrival and inadvertently ignored them. My apologies and this explains why I did not receive acknowledgement of smiles I myself had sent!

Notification emails are sent only for written messages and contact requests. If a smile is sent on the same day as a message, it will be included in the notification email. Otherwise, smiles do not generate notification emails.
Once a notification email has been sent, no further notification emails will be sent for additional unread messages unless the recipient has returned to the site since the previous notification. This helps prevent repeated reminder emails from being sent to inactive members. However, this restriction is automatically reset twice a week, allowing notifications to resume even if the recipient has not yet visited the site.
Originally, notification emails were also sent for smiles. Unfortunately, some men with free accounts abused this by sending smiles to hundreds of different people. At the time, messaging cost only $10 per year, and it seems they hoped that by casting a wide enough net, someone would eventually reply, allowing them to avoid paying the subscription fee. As a result, notification emails for smiles were disabled. Apparently, some people considered spending a few minutes clicking hundreds of smile buttons preferable to paying $10 for a year’s membership.
