For members in Ireland and Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

We have noticed some unvaccinated members have set their country to be Ireland (Republic of), but have specified a city in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

In the few cases we have seen, we have changed their country from Ireland to United Kingdom (with the region of Northern Ireland).

We have recently added a database mapping cities to latitudes and longitudes. This makes it possible to search for people within a certain distance from you on our new map-based search page.

The mapping between a city name and a latitude and longitude position on a map only works if your city name belongs to the right country in the database. We did not create this database ourselves, but we have to work within its confines.

This means if you want to use our old search for all people in Ireland you will have to search for people both in Ireland and in the United Kingdom with the region set to be Northern Ireland.

If you want to use our new map-based search, just set your position to be in Ireland with enough range to encompass the whole country. If you scroll almost right to the bottom of the Maximum distance from you list box and select Ireland, then our map-based search will only show people in Ireland, not Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. In this case specifying a distance in kilometres is superior to just specifying the country.

Of course if a member of this website logs-on and manually sets their location on a map, then the default latitude and longitude determined by our database is not needed and will be overwritten.

Not all cities are in the database, which is why we still have a manual method to set your location.

Of course you should not set your location to be right on your home, but just on a random location somewhere in your city.

We apologise for the confusion, but we hope our new map-based search will improve the experience here from everybody.

In future, we won’t change countries after the fact.
