I was reading reviews about other dating apps and one reviewer detailed his displeasure at the app not having any like or match buttons available for free.
Our equivalent of these are our Smile and Ask for a contact buttons.
Now I know why other apps don’t have these sort of functions available unless a member pays first.
I’ve noticed over the last few months lots of emails going out informing members that they have received smiles and contact requests from non-paying members. I’ve looked up the locations of both the senders and recipients. It is patently obvious that both of them are so far apart they will never meet up in real life. If too many people do this the website will fall apart as members get fed up with being bothered unnecessarily. (All our notification emails have unsubscribe links at the bottom and our system automatically stops sending notification emails if the first one is not acted upon. In this way nobody on this website will get sent an excess of emails by our server – unless they are active on the site after each notification. You can also turn off notification emails by going to Meet People->My Account, scrolling down the web page and clicking No email from this site followed by Save.)
It is too much to ask people to think before they press buttons?
If there is a genuine connection, a shared background or someone wishes to say how much they agree with what is written on a profile that is okay, but people must try to think that each profile here belongs to a real human, who ultimately wants to meet someone in their city or at most a few hours away.
A rule of thumb should be are you really prepared for expensive air flights to meet someone in real life?
If too many people continue not to think these buttons will be disabled for free members.
Patience is the key, not going overboard with button clicking. The real solution is contacting us and see if we can target online advertising to your area. You should also look at https://unjabbed.net/topic/adverts/
If you are wondering why we are making this point, it is because the far cheaper and more sensible option is for more people on this site to pay for subscriptions. Then we can pay for more online advertising, which will make it far more likely you will be able to find someone in your area. This is only logical. We’ve seen from adverts on Druthers.ca and NineForNews.nl that we can get hundreds of new members and for NineForNews this happens in only a matter of days. On Twitter we can get a slow stream of new members from various places around the world with a low daily budget. Advertising is expensive for a small organization to pay out, but is trivial when divided by the number of people in a region (state, province) or country.
Only a minority of members here pay for a subscription. This means we are very constrained as regards funds for online advertising. Our website was totally free to use from March 2023 to July 2024 and such we lost out on revenue.
When searching people should make sure the country and region (in the USA, the region is the same as state) are set appropriately. Only if you find there is nobody in your region, should you set it to – No matter – and then search again.
I am convinced some people here don’t know how to search properly and don’t even bother to read profiles before sending smiles and contact requests. I’ve received several smiles and contact requests and my profile clearly states I am the administrator of this website and I’m not here to meet anyone.
If you hover your mouse over the flag icon on profiles, the country name will appear as a pop-up tip.
We don’t have access to the text of written messages on our system.
