During the first few months of this website’s existence in 2023, I occasionally asked members why they didn’t fill in their profile description or add a photograph. Their response was that there weren’t many people in their city and so it was not worth bothering.
When a new member joins, I sometimes look to see how many other people are in their city. In the last few months, I’ve seen tens of people located in the same city. Unfortunately most of the profiles are blank and only a few have any signs of being filled in. Blank profiles ensure that nobody will subscribe to this website and send messages to other members. This means we don’t have the money for more advertising and to keep this website going.
Big business with its unlimited spigot of government and stock market money isn’t responsible for independent dating sites. Internet hosting, software and advertising costs do mount up. For a long time, having the funds for advertising has been a limiting factor for us.
Mainstream dating sites can cost up to $20 USD or €20 per month. Over time the money people have to spend on dating websites can be excessive. At the time of writing, our costs for a year are less than other sites charge for a single month!
At the moment we are paying for online advertising. We are getting a continual stream of new members, but at the same time we are getting a continual stream of people deleting their accounts saying they didn’t find anyone in their city. It is a pity people can’t fill in their profiles and wait a while.
This website can be a useful tool, but it cannot be all on us.
Why do people want to pay hundreds of dollars to wealthy dating sites, whose only concern is keeping you on them for as long as possible collecting double-matches and extracting money at the same time? Why not put up our adverts locally on public noticeboards and see if anybody appears on this site from your city? If we paid for more online advertising we would slowly become as expensive as all the other sites out there!
